Template Change

Hi guys! Yes you have landed into Tanyaloca’s website. “Sometimes Sunny in Seattle”

I know the template is different and it has been changing every few months. I know it’s been confusing and it’s not really a good way of establishing a “brand”. But I just needed something I had more control over.

So welcome! Enjoy! Leave a comment so I know who my readers are. Come on, don’t be a stalker now. haha!

The Nothing Box

365 - 65 - living in a box

Living in the Nothing Box

Nick and I had friends over for dinner the other night. They recently got engaged and are already planning their wedding this December. Throughout the night, we were talking about relationships, what we learned in our marriage, what they are learning about each other and so forth. And I ended up having to tell my girlfriend about the “Nothing Box”

She asked me what the “Nothing Box” was and I explained it to her by saying that with men, they have a place in their heads where they hang out and think of nothing, absolutely nothing.  When we ask them, “What are you thinking?” and they reply with, “Nothing.” They really mean nothing.

Her eyes opened so wide in shock that it made me laugh so hard. She said, “What do you mean nothing?! That’s not possible!” I told her, not to worry because  I couldn’t wrap my mind around the idea either.

I learned about the “Nothing Box” through Mark Gungor’s, “The Difference Between Men’s Brains and Women’s Brains”

It is pretty funny. There are so many truths to it. I love the part when he said that women can’t go inside the nothing box. Hahaha! Oh how we just want to get in there and feel what it’s like to think about nothing. Nothing at all.

Two nights ago I asked Nick a question while I was folding our clothes, “Hun, is it really true there’s a Nothing Box?” I was thinking about it again and wanted to make sure that it’s not some sort of made up thing guys would do to not say something about anything. He laughed and told me, “That’s where I was just before you asked me that question.”

*sigh*

It is the one thing I will never understand about all the guys I know.

Hair Thoughts

Maybe I Need A Little More...

I’m thinking of giving my hair a funeral. Say some prayers and let go. I can do it once and not look back. It’s just hair. It’s just hair. It’s just hair.

Maybe I’ll gather my friends and family. Bury the hair with flowers. Say a silent prayer and walk away. After that, we’ll have a reception and we’ll talk about my hair and how great it was. And then we’ll say, “It’s just hair. It was good hair. But it was just hair.”

Jesus is ____.

Some of you don’t know Him, some of you do but don’t believe in Him anymore, and to some, they don’t really care.

For me, right now, Jesus is my healer, He’s my caffeine, He’s my strength. He’s the one who gives me laughter and joy in my heart. He makes the gloomy days good days. He makes me see that what I’m going through is only temporary.

He makes me smile.

Who is Jesus to you?

I Thanked Him

I took this photo the other day. Nick and I were at Alki enjoying what’s left of summer. We just got back from Spokane and we didn’t feel like it was time to go home yet. So we took a walk for a little bit.

This photo made me happy. It doesn’t really compare to the real thing, ’cause the real thing was more vivid and bright. I was so tempted to jump in, but the water was freezing. I stared at it for a long time though. I thought about how God talks to us in ways like the ocean. He shows us the things He made to make us happy.

I sat close to the water. Closed my eyes and thanked God I’m alive. That doesn’t happen often. But I think it should. I don’t think I thank Him enough for that.

Radiolab

I’m addicted to Radiolab.  If you haven’t heard about it, it’s ’bout time you do. For Nick’s and my trip to Spokane, I burned a couple of episodes so we won’t find ourselves going crazy on the boring part of the drive.

Did you know that the Woodland Park Zoo is the first zoo in the US that made gorilla enclosures that matched the world gorilla’s originally live in? No more white walled boxes for them.

Did you know that male ducks have 14 inch penises? Hahaha!

Lots of “Did you know?” facts that you can share with friends, I’m not sure the fact about the duck is a good ice breaker for new friends though.

Curled Up Into a Ball

6/52 - Tired

Yesterday I got off the bus about 10 long blocks away from home.  I needed the long walk to clear my head.  It feels good to do this sometimes, especially when I know I’m going to feel the apartment closing in on me once I get home.

Things will change.  Things will be easier.  Eventually.

I have faith. I just need to work on my patience.

Summer is Me

Nick and I have been enjoying our summer a lot. May not feel like summer today (It’s currently 63F) but I know it’s not over.  Sunny days are still coming and I can’t wait for more.  We’ve been swimming at Green Lake for 5 straight days and it has been wonderful.  I came into work today wearing a sweater, and because of all the swimming we’ve been doing since the weekend, it actually felt like Monday. I did not like that. But hey, our weekend made up for it.

My friend hosted a big luau at his house. He invited my capoeira group to come and perform. We did great by the way.  Photo below shows us, wearing white, with the hula dancers and the samoan slap dancers. haha!

And the last photo below was taken last Monday night. Our friend Jonny, same guy who hosted the luau, invited us over to Lake Union to enjoy the sunset.  I had such a blast! I actually went swimming in the middle of the lake at 11pm.  It’s not all the time that I get to say that. I’ve got some stories to tell my future kids.
